MAASTRICHT HARDCORE
2013, intervention in public space, 5 days
On the occasion of the application of the city of Maastricht for the title of the European Cultural Capital 2018, I was asked to realize a sculpture on the market square. I suggested to bring the crown of the logo of the nearby – now disused – sanitary factory Sphinx Sanitair on the square. The city was pleased that the industrial past – symbolized by the logo of this company founded in 1834 – is appreciated and revived by an initiative of young people. Also my suggestion to develop a soundtrack for the crown with young regional musicians was cheerfully accepted and mentioned on the cover of the local newspaper. Then there came the representatives of the Dutchest subculture of all, the HARDCORE DJs.
